History
Andover
was founded in 1946 in Lafayette, Indiana, to build electrical coils.
The Company reputation grew rapidly as a quality developer and manufacturer
of high voltage coils and transformers. Intense research and development,
prompt delivery, and competitive prices drove Andover's early growth.
Andover has received multiple quality awards from its customers and
its production process was a television feature.
In 1956, a Resins Department was established to develop epoxy formulations for high voltage applications. The results were epoxies formulated to meet extreme requirements of dielectric strength, hardness, temperature and color. Ever since, our coils and transformers have full protection from shock, vibration, moisture, alkalis, acids and solvents. Duncan Electric acquired the company in 1967, and later (1976) merged with Landis and Gyr. In 1982, The Western Tar Products Corporation acquired Andover. In 2000, the assets of Western Tar were sold and a new parent company, CAVU Ops. Inc. was formed. In 1990, Andover acquired a facility in Kenton, Ohio, which manufactured ignition coils for automotive and marine engine applications. Throughout this time Andover continued to grow in the coil and transformer fields. We are now a major producer of ignition coils for large industrial engines, motorcycles, aircraft, small stationary engines, magnetic contactors and medical X-ray transformers. We are currently the only US producer of oil filled coils used for classic car restorations. In 2007 private investors and the management team purchased Andover. Lafayette Facilities/Equipment
